Dear Parents
This week a lot of the children, and staff, have been celebrating St Patrick’s day by learning some Irish dancing steps.
You may also have noticed we are ‘chitting’ seed potatoes on the windowsills of classrooms ready to plant them in pots. It is always a great surprise to children, and staff, that 2 or 3 seed potatoes planted now produce more than 20 when we harvest them in July.
This week we have also been noticing more activity in the school pond. We have seen both frogs and newts and are waiting for them to spawn hopefully in the warmer weather next week.
Preparations for Easter are underway in all the classes with lots of bright egg pictures being painted everywhere, and plans for cooking Easter nest crispy cakes. On Wednesday we are having Easter singing in the garden, with Rachel accompanying us on her violin.
Everyone will be able to enjoy a hot cross bun at the end of the singing.

There are still a few spaces for Holiday club which is running from Monday 29 March – Thursday 1 April. Do contact us via office@homerton.cambs.sch.uk if you would like to book a space for your child.
Next week we have a trainee teacher joining us from the Faculty of Education. She will be with us until 11 June and is based in East Room but will be in the Nursery garden so other classes will meet her.

“My name is Chara and I’ll be joining Homerton Early Years Centre for a couple of months! I am originally from Athens, Greece but have been living in England for the past six years. I studied English Language and Literature for my BA, Creative Writing for my masters, and am now doing my Teacher Training in Early Years at the University of Cambridge. I speak English, Greek, French and a little bit of German. I love reading, especially children’s stories, writing and music! Before coming to Cambridge I was a tutor of Languages and History for three years. While studying, I was also a childminder, taking care of children from 14 months , working with messy play, early phonics and fun outdoor learning! I am very excited to be joining Homerton Early Years Centre and hope to have a lovely time meeting the children.”
